Several people have emailed me recently telling me they are dressing as SpandyAndy for Halloween. That is so cool. I’m super excited to see what everyone comes up with. I want to create a little contest. If you or a friend is dressing up as SpandyAndy for Halloween, take photos and send them in to photos[@]spandyandy.com A week or so after Halloween I will post all the photos and let people vote. The picture with the most comments wins! To show my appreciation I’ll send the winner a signed SpandyAndy T-shirt.
Here are some other ideas:
As for me, I’m going to be hiding in a regular costume only to pop out as SpandyAndy when it’s least expected.
Last night was so much fun! I got to meet Ryan Gosling and his gang, the people at the Venue and perform for a sold out crowd! (video)
The sound guys made a mistake and played the wrong music at the start and there was a bit of panic at the beginning. Then after I made it over to the sound booth in my Robot costume they started my song part way through. After that was awesome. Check out the video thanks to Birdo Productions and Emily’s fast facebooking.
This morning I had an interview with the Norwegian broadcasting corporation. We met up at the V.A.G. (Vancouver Art Gallery) on Robson St. The interview went great! We started it off with me getting a group of German tourists to sing, “Whoop There It Is”, next had a random dancing with me, and then we finished it with an interview.
Hopefully they put the footage online so I can show you guys.
If anyone from Norway is reading this, please record it!
My days are getting TIGHTER, TIGHTER and BRIGHTER! I spent the last few days running/scooting around working and meeting with people.
When I first moved to Vancouver I was actually called, “Handy Andy”. I went for business meetings (B.N.I.) with my brother promoting my computer technician services. I still have a few clients that need help with things and spent the last two days working on computers and then heading to Mongolie Grill to serve up some stir fry. In the mean time, and in between time, I’ve been emailing with someone from sealedwithakisspresents.com They are putting on a show called, “Dead Man’s Bones (featuring Ryan Gosling)“. It’s happening this Saturday night and it’s SOLD OUT. They asked me if I can open the night and get the party started! I’m not sure how they found me, but they were looking for local talent.
Now I have to put a show together to perform on stage at “the Venue” on Grandville St. The same place I happened to get kicked out of for dancing on stage with Moby on Tuesday. haha I’m trying to pick the songs, mix them together, get some outfits ready and plan out a routine. I figure I’ll start in a robot suit, pop and lock into a B-boy and then get FRESH in my Spandex to finish off!
The leaves are falling, the days are shorter and the spandex is only getting TIGHTER. I’ve spent the last few days recovering from my tooth extractions hopped up on Tylenol 3 with codeine. I went in for a cleaning and ended up needing to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed. Ironically thanks to Colgate, I could afford all my dental and oral care.
Today I went out and got some photos taken in my new gear.
Thanks for the photo shoot Birdo Productions!
SpandyAndy probably had one of the most amazing weeks of his life. Danced in Toronto and Seattle, won two BIG awards, and was asked by Vancouver Biennale to perform right near English Bay.
As many of you read, I just became Canada’s Freshest Dancer! I think it’s the perfect title for me. I don’t have a particular style of dance, but most people would characterize it is FRESH! After all, SpandyAndy puts the MINT in entertainMINT and that’s FRESH!
Some of you might have missed it in all the craziness, but I was voted the 2nd best local dancer by the Georgia Straight. I’m coming up to the end of my first year in Vancouver and I have to say it has been the best year yet. Thank you everyone who took the time and voted for me!
When I got back from Toronto I met up with an old friend and headed to Seattle. She wanted to go shopping and I wanted to perform SpandyAndy in the U.S.A. I actually planned the trip long before I knew I would be competing in Toronto. I ended up performing SpandyAndy at Pike Place. Here is a little bit of my performance. I didn’t put out a hat or anything, but still ended up with 5 bucks… AMERICAN. lol
As soon as I was back in Vancouver it was time to promote my Dance Party. I went out everyday downtown and danced around handing out fliers. My friend Maria Simpson made some awesome posters and fliers for the event, so I had to use them.
The Dance Party was super fun! Lots of TIGHT and BRIGHT people under one roof. Once the DJ’s arrived and started dropping the 90’s hits, everyone was grooving. It was nice meeting and dancing with everyone. Then it was time for our opening act. I met Sarah Louis-Jean on So You Think You Can Dance Canada. She has a really fun performance that I new my fans would like.
I was pretty nervous for my performance. The club doesn’t have the random bystanders walking through my dance floor. Thanks to some moves and Spandy’s Dandys everyone loved the performance. I had asked for backup dancers through my site and some girls really stepped up. They had awesome energy and outfits and really helped with the party. We even ended up dancing out in the streets together. Thanks again Lena, LP, and T-Smoke. I’ll be uploading some video as soon as I can.
Now it’s time to continue my work on SpandyAndy. I met with photographer Bruce Bachland who shot my Colgate pictures today. We are going to be working on a 2010 SpandyAndy Calender! Full of all the TIGHTEST holidays, BRIGHTEST spandex and grooviest pictures. I’m also going to be training for the Olympics. I have to get ready for international exposure. It’s time to shock the world!
