English Bay Documentary

November 30, 2009 - 4:02 pm 3 Comments

Hello Tight and Bright people of cyberspace! It’s been a little while since my last update. I’ve been busy getting ready for So You Think You Can Dance Canada Season 3, meeting with VFS students, and talking with I <3 Van Art about performing during the Olympics.

The wait for this update was worth it. My friend and fan Giacomo Cracco who I met at English Bay filmed me all summer while he was visiting Vancouver. All he had was a basic digital camera that could take pics and video. He filmed the day he met me, the SpandyAndy protest, and other little clips he caught while visiting English Bay. Then since he has a production background created a documentary about me and my time at English Bay. It’s pretty amazing what you can do with a cheap digital camera these days. He has uploaded the doc and it can now be viewed below:

Thank you for taking the time to create this WackyJacky and I’m sure my fans will enjoy. :-D
Keep Dancing,

Olympic Tables Have Turned

Within 24 hours of me posting SpandyAndy’s 2010 Winter I found out about a group called I Heart Van Art.

I Heart Van Art was seeking local artists/performers to show off there talent to the world. After attending the open forum yesterday I was literally dancing with joy. They have teamed up with the Yaletown B.I.A. to put together a 17 day street event during the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver!! They are looking for any type of art, so if you or someone you know would like to be apart of this event, check them out!

I wrote up and submitted a SpandyAndy_1_Page.PDF as well as a DVD of my performance at the venue. Hopefully they will dig the TIGHT and BRIGHT show and I will be able to make the WORLD smile. :-D

SpandyAndy’s 2010 Winter

Hey TIGHT and BRIGHT party people!

It’s been a couple weeks since my last update. I was lucky enough to survive the swine flu, practice my dancing and meet up with some students from Vancouver Film School to talk about the SpandyAndy documentary! :-D

I’ve been thinking a lot about what I can do with SpandyAndy during the winter. With all the rain and the temperature starting to drop around 0 degrees, it’s hard to find a spot to dance. My permit has expired, but I plan on heading into City Hall to get that renewed next week. There has been a lot of talk about how difficult the city is making it for buskers during the Olympics and how they have passed new bylaws preventing us from performing anywhere near Olympics sites.

I don’t understand why a city like Vancouver doesn’t want to showcase its people in the arts. Grandville Island is known as one of the best places in the world for performing arts and busking. Why when the world is watching would they muzzle us and pass new laws. It’s hard enough trying to make it without worrying about being a criminal too.

Anyway, I figure I am going to perform where the people are whether the city likes it or not. I might just dance without a hat. That way it is not busking. I don’t think they have a law passed preventing people from dancing on the sidewalks. (Hopefully they don’t read this. lol)

Otherwise I should be busy working with the students from VFS on a documentary. We met for coffee and they still have to get final approval from class, but it looks like it’s a go. We will be filming in Dec.

Stay FRESH and use hand sanitizer :-P
