Stereo Smashed; Society takes Action

June 18, 2010 - 9:36 pm 11 Comments

As many of you saw on my facebook and twitter, my stereo was destroyed today by some young hooligan.

Here’s the story; I was grooving down to English Bay to dance in the sun. When I arrived everybody was enjoying the beach. A couple young guys who looked like soccer fans were having fun in the distance. They were wearing their nations colors proud. One jumped right in front of my boombox and started juggling a soccer ball. I cheered him on. He was doing alright, then I went to join in. Everything was fine and he left.

During my next song I was performing for a large group of people who stopped dead in their tracks. This is when one of them grabbed my boombox and moved it. I noticed after and moved it back. A 3rd time these guys stepped up to my equipment and I heard people at the beach say, “Leave his stuff alone.” I looked back and walked over to them. They instantly told me they weren’t doing anything and that they were “ravers”. I took his word for it and said, “Okay, lets dance!”

I went back to dancing and didn’t think anything of it. All of a sudden this guy runs, grabs my ghetto blaster, and heads down the path. Good thing I practice running with all the joggers down at English Bay. As soon as he saw me gaining on him he smashed the radio on the ground. BANG; batteries all over, volume button rolling around, and wires torn. I looked up at him and grabbed him and yelled, “What the $%^%, why?” In the heat of the moment he just tried to wiggle away. I didn’t want to just let him run and my adrenaline was through the roof so I whipped him to the ground. His head bounced off the ground and I backed away. He stumbled up, looked at me, and ran out into the street.

I walked over to my baby :-P . Boomster was down for the count. I picked him up piece by piece to asses the damage. While carrying it back to my bag people started surrounding me. They all instantly started handing me money. One man took his cigar out of his mouth and handed me a $100 bill. I couldn’t believe the support I was getting. We pretty much covered the cost of the boombox. :-D

Everyone came together for the greater good.

Little did we know, our criminals were under arrest! The same man who wrote this amazing Vancouver Sun article about me had caught the suspect. A police officer arrived at English Bay to get the story. He told me about two options; I charge him for damages and after a witness statement I get a court date OR I can handle it under some civil thing and drop the charges if the criminal meets my offer of $220 in damages.

I headed back home waiting on the verdict from the police. I had to get my batteries transfered over to my back up box before the sun was gone. :-P My phone rang and the officer told me he was on his way over with the money.

In the end justice prevailed. Vancouver is an amazing place to be. It’s a big city, but the west end sure has a big heart. In fact this shows how great democracy and society can be. I feel the victim learned his lesson and we all won. Even he will see how great of a country Canada is. We may not have a championship soccer team, but we sure have each others backs.

Thanks again to all the commenters, supporters, and Graeme for that TIGHT citizens arrest. He even ran into the boys later on and snapped this photo. I wish I could see the front of the guy in the back. ;-)

Grind Timer

Now that Grouse Grind is open I’ve switched into my jogging gear.

I purchased a Grind Timer card so that I could keep track of all my times and progress. I found out about a person who is going to try and run the grind 14 times at the end of the month. I was thinking of seeing how many I could do.

I asked the front desk if I could get a discount because I was training and didn’t want to pay $5 to go down every time. There was nothing they could do, the only other option is $100 for a year pass. I’m really careful with my coin and decided I would just run down the mountain. It’s funny because there is a large yellow sign at the top that states, “Downhill Travel Prohibited” yet if you don’t have money they won’t let you on the gondola.

See you at the peak,

A Breathe of Fresh Air

What a BRIGHT weekend.
Everything is green, the people are out, and the city is alive.
I spent Saturday performing at English Bay, dancing at a 4 year olds Bday party in Burnaby, and then went for a Spandy speedo stroll.

Speedo - Spandy

I was walking around visiting everyone on the beach while playing “Night at the Roxbury“. There was a lot of police presence and I decided to go for a stroll with a few. We poked fun at each other for a bit and then split up.

Today I went back to English Bay after getting a text from my friend telling me they removed a jazz band from the beach. I was a little worried, but I new the band probably broke laws just like I did. A possible difference is; my number one task is to make it a more enjoyable place for everyone. You have to respect the police and alcohol is not tolerable. The police came past me while I was performing and I acknowledged them, danced over, and he remembered me from the day before. He told me I can carry on and the crowd applauded with me. :-D

You win some, you lose some, but never give up if you know what your doing is right.

Keep smiling,

SpandyAndy Reality TV

DIY – Reality TV

June 6, 2010 - 2:45 am 2 Comments

on-air-webMy experience with LIVE broadcasting today was a huge eye opener. The possibilities that started popping up in my head were endless. With the way technologies are developing these days; I can sense a big opportunity.

DIY aka Do It Yourself, is a big part of SpandyAndy. If you look at it in business sense I’m a full on entrepreneur. With my experience producing a TV series [ BrothersTV ], I’ve had a lot of hands on with all aspects of production. Also with my background in computers, I’ve got a large grasp on social media and even a bit of internet marketing under the belt.
I’ve also been contracted several times for large scale public promotions.

The impact I (SpandyAndy) was able to make on the city of Vancouver within one year businesses would LOVE. Partial success could be due to not having a business connection, but not in the big scheme of numbers. I have several messages; enjoy everyday, always laugh, be healthy, take risks, have FUN! These are all messages several companies follow and what I believe are the secrets to success. What if SpandyAndy went GLOBAL?

Everything I have accomplished so far was on a budget of pennies. Several ideas could not be formed do to time and money. Thanks to the amazing advancements taking place in technology, anyone can stream audio/video from anywhere to anywhere in the world, without a budget.

Reality TV is what people watch these days. Survivor, American Idol, The Amazing Race, The Apprentice, The Biggest Loser, Extreme Home Makeover, The Bachelor, ext, ext! We all love to connect with the characters as they go through their experience.

What am I getting at?
I’m throwing this out in the inter-webs asking if anyone else sees the possibilities I see with SpandyAndy and Reality TV. I’ve been to Los Angeles to pitch a TV series before and met lots of people in the industry, but still haven’t had any key players take me on. I don’t need a huge budget, I need a team of innovative people willing to work on this together and maybe a small investor. :-)

In the world of opportunities sometimes it’s who you know, not what you know. If you know anyone that might be interested in this opportunity or you just want to share this exciting idea with someone else, please forward them here so they can find me:

Thanks for your help!

Keep it TIGHT & BRIGHT,
